Match Report for 7th November 2009 from Loughton RFC Website

Ongar 5
Loughton 22

Loughton travelled the few miles to local rivals Ongar on Saturday hoping to repeat their run of form. As usual both sides were not going to take a step back so this clash was always going to be a fierce one.
Loughton started the more dominant, putting early pressure on the home side and pushing deep into Ongar territory.

The result was a penalty awarded just outside the Ongar 22 but the usual accurate Sayers pulled his kick wide.
From the 22 restart, Loughton lock forward, Andrew Sheeley gathered the ball just inside the Ongar half and made a scything run deep into the home sides 22 before offloading to Stock, who beating another defender put castles in for a try in the corner.
Ongar came back strongly but a dogged Loughton defence held out for most of the half up until a well worked try from the home side took the scores level to end the half 5-5.
The second half was a continuation of the first with both sides playing positive rugby with tempers fraying at times.
It was Ongar who were to fall foul of their indiscretions first with a player put into the sin bin for ten minutes. Failing to capitalise on this Loughton too, soon lost a man to the bin.
Concentrating on hard rugby as opposed to fighting, Loughton soon took the initiative when back row forward, Arram Eghoyan made an outstanding run beating four defenders to score his first try for Loughton.
Now with the upper hand the visitors began to turn up the pressure, a further lack of discipline saw another Ongar player in the bin and Loughton were on the front foot once again.
It wasn’t long before a well worked passage of play saw Castles cross the whitewash for a second time to increase the lead to 15-5.
The game was finished off with a great run from centre, Mike Estall making ground which put Richard Stock in for a try under the posts. Owen Sayers added the extra points and a hard fought game finished with another impressive Loughton victory.
