We launched the Ongar RFC
Mini section in September 2009 offering boys and girls aged 5-8
years old the chance to play Tag Rugby, a non-contact version of
rugby. It is fun, energetic and can be played together by boys and
girls of all abilities, developing their physical, technical and
game skills.
We train on Sunday mornings
from 10am until 11am at Love Lane. We also play matches against
other local clubs including Braintree, Wenden Ambo, Chelmsford,
Harlow and Brightlingsea, and participate in Mini Festivals. Check
the latest calendar on the left and look out for the newsletters
posted here.
During Autumn 2009 we also
ran Tag Rugby coaching programmes in six local primary schools for
Years 2, 3 and 4; Chipping Ongar, Moreton, Doddinghurst, Dr Walkers,
Shelley and High Ongar,. The programme was funded by SportEssex and
culminated in the first Ongar Schools Tag Rugby Festival.
In the Summer holidays we
run half day Taster courses and during the Summer 2010 school term
we will be running an after school Tag Rugby club on Wednesdays.
From September 2010 we will
be running teams for players in school Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 which are
described in the rugby world as Under 6, 7, 8 and 9 respectively.
Philip Cranwell is the Mini
Rugby Coordinator, and to support the active participation of girls
